Widnes pulled off a famous win at the DW Stadium earlier in the season but they will be hard pressed to repeat the feat on Thursday against a Wigan side who can go joint top of Super League with a win.
Shaun Wane’s men have shown flashes of their attacking potential in recent weeks though their most recent win over St Helens was built on a brilliant defensive display – a 25-0 shut out.

Anthony Gelling scored a hat-trick of tries for Wigan who had beaten by Saints 23-4 just a few weeks earlier.
Wigan have stuck with the same 19 to face Widnes as they are still missing several players through injury including Tony Clubb, Sean O’Loughlin, Dom Manfredi, Michael McIllorum and Joel Tomkins.
Widnes won their last game before the Challenge Cup Final break, an impressive 40-8 success over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at the Select Security Stadium. Patrick Ah Van scored twice and Rhys Hanbury, Matty Whitley, Corey Thompson, Stef Marsh and Lloyd White got a try apiece.
It was the Vikings’ first win in the Super 8s this season. With Castleford losing the day earlier at Warrington, the win took Widnes to sixth in the table but they have no chance of making the top four and are playing only for pride.
Gelling, who scored a hat-trick against St Helens is 10/1 with Paddy Power to be first try scorer with Josh Charnley rated as favourite to touch down first at 8/1.
