India are the defending champions and they are very difficult to oppose as they prepare for their fourth appearance in the final of an ICC tournament since 2010. They are a country who knows how to get results and they have been the form team this summer, with only a shock defeat to Sri Lanka in the group stages tarnishing exemplary wins over Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh.
Virat Kohli’s men thrashed Pakistan to secure a fourth win in the last five ODI meetings with their fierce rivals and India are 2/5 for victory on Sunday (Ladbrokes).
It is remarkable to see Pakistan in this final, such was the abject nature of their opening defeat to the Indians, but they have recovered to beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and England.
Pakistan were simply sensational on a used pitch in their semi-final win over England in Cardiff but their bowlers will have their work cut out on an excellent track at The Oval, where the team batting second has won three of the four completed Champions Trophy matches this year.
Hasan Ali has been the stand-out performer with the ball for Pakistan, taking ten wickets, and he is 3/1 to be his team’s top bowler again (Ladbrokes.com).
India have a fine attack of their own as Bhuvneshwar Kumar has taken six wickets so far and he is 7/2 to be top bowler for his side after taking 10 wickets at 21.70 in previous ODI’s against Pakistan.
Dhawan To Fire
It is the batting order where India trump their opponents though as they boast three of the five top runscorers in the Champions Trophy, with Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli all sparkling with the bat.
We have been beating the drum for Dhawan all summer and we are going to back him to be top India batsman on Sunday (10/3 with Paddy Power). Dhawan, who has amassed 317 runs in the Champions Trophy so far, loves playing at The Oval as his three ODI scores there read: 102*, 125 and 78 (average 152.50), and he can guide his side to a successful Champions Trophy defence this weekend.
