Make A Casey For Paul Being Top European Player At The EurAsia Cup

There is a treat for golf enthusiasts on Friday as Team Europe take on Team Asia in the EurAsia Cup at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Malaysia, and it is a strong European team who are favourites to successfully defend the title they won in resounding style two years ago…

@ 15 / 2
Hideto Tanihara Top Asian Points Scorer (each way) @ 9 / 1

The Odds

The Europeans romped to an 18.5 – 5.5 victory here two years ago and they will be confident of producing something similar in a three-day event that feaures fourballs on Friday, foursomes on Saturday and singles on Sunday.

Captain, Thomas Bjorn, has an enviable array of riches at his disposal and Europe are 1/4 favourites with Bet Victor, who go 11/1 about the tie and 7/2 about Team Asia to win.

Top European

The likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Henrik Stenson and Rafa Cabrera-Bello all tee up this week, while Ross Fisher returns after going unbeaten in his three matches (2-0-1) in 2016.

Fisher is 11/1 to be top European this weekend but it is Paul Casey who gets the nod from us in this bracket – 15/2 with Betfair. Casey returns to play for a European team for the first time since 2008 as he has rejoined the European Tour in a bid to make himself available for the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National later this year.

The 40-year-old is a fine match-play exponent as his record in team events reads 11-8-4 (won-lost-halved) and he also won the World Cup with Luke Donald in the past, while the singles record of a player who is a former HSBC Match Play winner and a two-time runner-up at the WGC Match Play stands up to scrutiny (33-23-3).
Tip #1: Paul Casey Top European Points Scorer @ 15/2 with Betfair.

Top Asian

As for Asia, they were humiliated two years ago but they should put up a better fight in Malaysia this time, with Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Byeong-Hun An and Anirban Lahiri all teeing up for captain Arjun Atwal.

Lahiri is 13/2 favourite to be top Asian points scorer but his record in team and match-play events isn’t great, so we prefer to side with Hideto Tanihara at 9/1 (Boylesports).

The Japanese star was edged out by Bill Haas in a third-place play-off at the WGC Match Play last year and the 39-year-old is an experienced campaigner for Asia having appeared in their victorious Royal Trophy-winning team and in the EurAsia Cup.

Tanihara’s singles record reads 4-3-2 and his team record is 2-1-1, with 9/1 very much each-way value here.
Tip #2: Hideto Tanihara (each way) @ 9/1 with Boylesports.
